Project objectives
The project aims strengthen the capacities of the Local Government equal opportunities commissions as key element contributing to the gender equality policy at the local level.
The project activities will be directed in a way that will ensure creation of linkages between local policy decisions with a real life issues such as health care, domestic violence, assistance to single mothers, access to employment, education and justice.
The following are the key elements/outputs of this project

Functional gender based networks among local government units and with MLSP –Sector for Equal opportunity created;

Gender related expertise in country enhanced;

Strengthened capacities of municipal administration within various sectors to understand and mainstream gender through EOC coordinators enhanced;

Improved understanding and strengthened capacity of the municipal counselors’ - members of the EOC and major counterparts among municipal personnel from various departments to implement gender mainstreaming into all functions and working sectors of the municipality (health, education, water and sanitation, etc.).

Web Based forum for information and experience sharing established.

Baseline assessment on gender representation undertaken in 80% of involved municipalities.

Local gender equality action plans developed/updated for all municipalities were EOC functions.
Intended beneficiaries
Equal opportunity Commission Coordinators and municipal councillors as well as major counterparts among municipal personnel from various departments (health, education, water and sanitation, etc.), will be the main target group of the project.
However, beneficiaries will include the local decision makers and citizens at large. Through training and mentoring and other form of the knowledge exchange municipalities will be in position to better address and mainstream gender in to policy development and its daily work. Through initiating a broad consultation process with relevant partners on the content of the Local Gender Equality Action Plan, project results will reach broader public in municipalities that will be directly targeted.
By presenting the findings of the Baseline Assessment reports and Local Gender Equality Action Plan on a web based platform, as well as analytical studies or other relevant materials available from other countries, key messages would also be available nationwide to the general public.
